Bathurst Harvest Festival 2010
Sunday 11 to Monday 26 April
Bathurst Harvest Festival is a celebration of the harvest which dates back to the times when the success of the crops governed the lives of the people. Bathurst in April will celebrate the harvest of the Central West with a festival for the senses, showcasing our region's abundant food and wine, celebrating our history, our music and our artistic heritage. Two wonderful weeks of indulging ourselves in all that is good about where we live!
Around the World in 100 miles picnic This family picnic will launch the Bathurst Harvest Festival and BMEC's new world music festival The Inland Sea of Sound. There is no entry fee and the public is invited to bring a picnic or to purchase food from various multicultural stalls and a bottle of wine from local vineyards. Music and dance from around the world will be presented on three stages in Machattie Park over three hours. Celebrate our cultural diversity by bringing a picnic based on produce grown within 100 miles of Bathurst, produce that now reflects the influences of people from numerous countries. Enjoy your picnic being entertained by music and dance from around the world.
Festival Program
Mount Panorama Winery On your way around Mount Panorama stop, sample and purchase some cool climate wine made from the grapes grown on the world famous race track.
Stone Pine Distillery See the distillery, meet the distiller and sample our range of spirits and liqueurs at the bar. The distillery is located only five minutes from Bathurst city centre.
Backyard Concerts ‘Backyard world music concerts' in houses (ordinary or extraordinary) in the city centre. Gather your friends and family a hamper of local produce and a blanket and head over to your neighbours' backyard for a concert you will never forget. (Full details to be announced.) Then we move to Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre for three nights of sensational, exceptional world music concerts.
Eddie de Brazil: Get up and dance to Eddie de Brazil or just sit back to enjoy the seven-piece Latin band and the spectacle of capoeira and samba. Multi instrumentalist and singer Ednaldo Ignacio (Eddie De Brasil) leads a world class band in an evening which showcases the best of (Brasilian popular music), from samba, pagoda and axe to forro and the classic Bossa Nova.
Khalil Gudaz Khalil Gudaz is one of the most outstanding practitioners of Hindustani and Afghani music. A disciple of the great master Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Khalil has mastered the demanding sitar style known as "Gayaki-Ang" (the singing style, he is recognised internationally for his work in bringing together the great North Indian Raag traditions with his subtle and lyrical melodic interpretations drawn from his Afghani heritage. Khalil's mastery of the instrument is dazzling.
Zulya and the Children of the Underground Zulya, originally from Tatarstan in central Russia, is familiar to audiences throughout Australia as a performer of traditional and original music derived from her Tatar and Russian cultural roots. Zulya has developed a totally original approach as an affirmation of her unique identity - an affirmation that takes her Tatar and Russian background to totally new places and in completely new ways with a highly developed sense of melody, rhythm and texture. "Zulya's powerful heart-tugging voice is emotionally irresistible. She has provided us with a musical window into a unique and little known culture, from a corner of the world, which we might otherwise have remained ignorant of. Easter Festive Lunch This event is a traditional Greek Festival lunch which would traditionally eaten to celebrate Easter. The lunch will feature local produce and classic Greek and Mediterranean cooking styles and flavors. Relax in the leafy courtyard and enjoy salt marinated lamb from the BBQ, roasted fetta in vine leaves all accompanied by our truly local Renzaglia Wines from O'Connell. Bookings are essential.
The Bathurst Harvest Festival & The Flavours of Autumn Cobblestone Restaurant & McGrath Family Wines - hosted by Peter McGrath, the night will showcase regional produce matched with the McGrath Family medal winning wines and music from Mitchell Conservatorium. Limited seating - 3 courses with matching wine.
Bathurst Region Harvest Festive Farmers' Market The Bathurst Region Farmers' Market offers the community the opportunity to purchase food, plants and value-added produce directly from the grower/maker. A special celebratory Farmers Market will be held as part of the Bathurst Harvest Festival. There will be live music, children's activities, demonstrations, plus more. Join the Bathurst Region Farmers market to enjoy a fantastic celebration of local regional and seasonal produce during the Harvest Festival.
Farmers' Market Dinner Take pleasure in a four course dinner featuring the fresh produce from that morning's market. These dinners are very popular and include innovative and delicious ways of getting the best from our marvellous variety of local producers. Enjoy the taste of our region in the historic building that is the O'Connell Café. Bookings are essential.
Harvest Dinner Bathurst Council for Christian Education invites you to a Harvest Dinner to promote the work of Christian Education in Bathurst High and Kelso High (Denison College). Tickets are available from your church, Bathurst Health Foods and Pilgrim Books.

A Walk through the vineyard Winemaker, Mark Renzaglia, will review all aspects of winemaking including a stroll through the vineyard and winery with discussions about high quality cool climate winegrowing. The tour will include barrel testing's and conclude with a tasting of current, and not yet released, wines. Winburndale Wines will be open for tastings and nibbles throughout the Harvest Festival weekend from 11am to 4pm.
Festa della Vendemmia at Vale Creek As a feature of the ‘Bathurst Harvest Festival', the ‘Festa della Vendemmia' (Grape Harvest Festival) will be held at ‘Vale Creek Wines' Cellar Door. The day will include tastings of our distinctive Italian wine varieties, whilst a light menu will feature the popular ‘Arrosticini', a lamb delicacy from Italy's Abruzzo region. Various light musical recitals will add to festivities. Being harvest time or ‘vintage', the winery will be full of excitement and activity. Tours of the winery and vineyard will take place and include exclusive barrel tastings of the 2009 red wines that will be bottled in May for release later in the year.
Grappa Distilling In true Italian harvest tradition, grape marc from Vale Creek Wines will be distilled at Stone Pine Distillery to produce "Grappa". See the still in action, learn how grappa is made and taste the legendary disestif at the bar.
Solid Gold This will be an evening of gold medal winning wines from Winburndale's cellar matched with the culinary masterpieces of chef Phillippe Legall. This event will be hosted at Bishops's Court Estate. Bookings are essential.
